If you have ever been to New York City, you already know that your wallet gets a good beating over there. But it is so worth it. Yes, New York is very expensive but that is why I am here to help! I planned a trip to go over there back in August, I made a tight budget and made a very detailed itinerary and everything worked out perfectly. Of course, I splurged a little bit here and there but nothing too drastic. So, if you are a happy returning customer to this beautiful concrete jungle - keep scrolling :)
FLIGHT
Before you plan all the nooks and crannies of your trip, you have to get there first! I bought my Delta airline ticket almost a month before my actual trip date, and I got them so cheap. Like...twice as cheap as if I booked a couple weeks before the trip. I found on pinterest a helpful little guide that I keep with me when I am planning a getaway.
SLEEP
If you want the true New York experience, stay in a locals apartment! I did this and I didn't feel like a tourist at all - which was my goal. And there are many options depending on what you are willing to spend. Whether it's a tiny studio on the Lower East Side or a penthouse in SoHo.

AFFINIA MANHATTAN My favorite hotel right in the heart of Manhattan. With Madison Square Garden and the Penn Station a block away, Affinia is my all time favorite place to stay when I'm in the city. It's a little bit on the pricey side but they usually have special offers that you can't ignore!

EAT - I am a major foodie so prepare for a very long list.
B R E A K F A S T
JACK'S WIFE FREDA - 224 LAFAYETTE ST.
I don't suggest going here on a weekend, the wait was almost 2 hours long. I wasn't in a hurry and it's located in the middle of SoHo so we went shopping :) Let me tell you, that wait was so worth it! The decor is adorable and the breakfast is TO DIE FOR.

Outside waiting in 101 degree weather

Madame Freda (Ham and Gruyere cheese sandwich topped with a fried egg) and the best Watermelon juice ever! My best friend had the Rosewater Waffle (a must try!) and their homemade Mint Lemonade.

CARLO'S BAKERY - 625 8TH AVE.

I preordered my breakfast a couple days before so I wouldn't have to wait in the long line.

God bless those cannolis

THE BUTCHER'S DAUGHTER - 19 KENMARE ST.

Super cute farmhouse restaurant known for it's yummy vegan dishes

Wheat French Toast with bananas and a vegan raspberry butter

Plain ol' farm eggs and 2 grain toast and a Mango Lassi smoothie (don't mind the lipstick smudge)
FINANCIER PATISSERIE - 62 STONE ST.

Okay, so I noticed I had eggs every morning haha! The iced vanilla latte was sooo good.

L U N C H
ALICE'S TEA CUP - 102 WEST 73RD ST.

This has to be my favorite lunch spot in the city, their tea, sandwiches and scones are soo good! The people who work there are also the sweetest, their restaurant kinda feels like home - only in a whimsical way.

Ham and swiss sandwich with dijon mustard on pumpernickel bread and a passionfruit tea.

I am still having dreams about this pumpkin scone with a caramel glaze.
CHELSEA MARKET - 75 9TH AVE.
This is a great spot for a quick lunch and some shopping :)

D I N N E R
SOFIA'S OF LITTLE ITALY - 143 MULBERRY ST.

Great spot for a date night in the heart of Mulberry St.

Perfect for a day out shopping on 5th Avenue

Views of Bryant Park right behind the famous New York Public Library

I had the Filet Mignon with potato gratin, mushrooms and a delicious pearl onion demi glaze and with fries and onion rings on the side.
SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY - 645 9TH AVE.

Baby back ribs and the BEST Mac n' Cheese ever. The cornbread is also sooo good.
SERENDIPITY 3 - 225 EAST 60TH ST.

If you plan on dining here, watch the movie Serendipity to make your experience just that more special.

Although we didn't go here for dinner, their Frozen Hot Chocolate is a must try if you dine here!

Rooftop restaurant and bar with views of Times Square

Amazing creme brulee!

SEE
CENTRAL PARK

I recommend going through Central Park in a bike ride, whether it's you riding the bike or someone else taking you

Found the spot where Chuck and Blaire got married :)

The oh so famous fountain from Friends

There's a little bike shop on Central Park W and 60th St (by Trump International) and their bikes are cheaper than renting Citi Bikes!

CHELSEA MARKET & HIGH LINE
The cutest market ever! I can't believe I have never been here before, there are so many options for food and shopping and then you can hop on up to the High Line and enjoy the rest of your day there.

List of all the shops and food stops in the market

The best spot on the High Line for relaxing and enjoying the sounds of the city

BROOKLYN

Walking/biking the Brooklyn Bridge is a must do! The views are so breathtaking

Brooklyn Museum

Coney Island

We cut our trip to Coney Island short after riding this 99 year old wooden rollercoaster. No thanks. You can literally see the fear in my face LOL.

The Boardwalk
All done! Again, this guide is specifically for those of you looking into doing more local non-touristy things while you're in the city. Don't let it stop you from watching a broadway show or hopping off and on on those bus tours! I hope you all enjoyed this post and have a fun trip!
While I'm at it, what do you love about New York City? Tell me below!
